DON & ANN FOSTER
Don & Ann Foster have been members of our First Christian family for many, many years. We know Don and Ann through their participation in many areas and activities of our church. Currently Don is our treasurer (he keeps our books balanced and writes the important checks). Ann is currently a member of the Local and Global Outreach Team.
Both Don and Ann worked at Kansas State University and in fact met while working there. Don was the Registrar for KSU for 40 years. They met when Ann was working in University Publications. It is reported that Ann had made a mistake on the Registrar’s office account, and after Don confronted her about it and she resolved the problem, Ann asked Don if he would like to share a cup of coffee J….and as they say, “the rest is history”. How romantic is that?!! Ann later moved to the facilities office and retired from there just last year. Retirement must not have worked all that well for them, as Don has now assumed the duties of Treasurer of our church, and Ann just started back to work, this time with the Holmes Insurance Agency.
Twenty-five years ago Don and Ann blended their families; Don with his four children and Ann with her three. Now between them, they have 19 grandchildren. One of their joys is to visit children and grandchildren, and currently these off spring live as far west as Hawaii and as far east as Florida. This makes for some wonderful trips for Don and Ann. Although most of us do not know their children, we do know their grandson, Justin. You know Justin as the large, lovingly imposing young high schooler who lights up and takes over any space he joins. We see him at church often, and what a delight and positive presence and influence he is to our youth group as well as our congregation!
As part of their 25th wedding anniversary celebration this past year, they traveled up to Alaska, and also up into the northeast to Boston and the surrounding area. Then Ann also made a trip with some of her family to Europe….Finland in particular. Perhaps she should present us with a travelogue of her trip some day? Ann returned not too long ago from serving a short term mission with the Jamaica team. She says that this was a life changing experience for her, and we look forward to hearing about the mission experience when our Jamaica Mission Team share their work week with us.
In addition to traveling to parts far away, Don and Ann are active members of Gideons International and they travel extensively throughout the state of Kansas for that organization. Don is the former State President of the Gideons, and Ann is the former Vice-President of the Gideons Auxiliary. In any spare time they have at home, Don and Ann both are avid readers, Don enjoys playing golf, and Ann is a docent at the Konza Prairie. You can see that this couple who are active members of our church family do not have much “idle time”. If you can catch up to them, you might ask them about their family, their travels, and what our church means to them. You will have a fascinating visit!
